Webinar Recap: NFPA 72 & Cybersecurity of Fire Protection Products
Hosted by FM Approvals’ Jason Stiteler, Patrick Byrne, and Khalid Ansari

In December, FM Approvals’ Jason Stiteler, Patrick Byrne, and Khalid Ansari hosted an insightful webinar focused on the impact of the NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling code on the cybersecurity of fire protection products.
FM Approvals’ cybersecurity certification program for connected equipment has been developed specifically to evaluate industrial control systems, connected systems, and related components.
A path for manufacturers of these products to meet the NFPA 72 cybersecurity requirements is to get their development processes certified to the ISA/IEC 62443-4-1 (SDLA) standard, as well as their products to the ISA/IEC 62443-3-3 and ISA/IEC 62443-4-2 standards as applicable. This approach ensures that security is integrated throughout the product’s lifecycle, providing a holistic and effective means of achieving compliance and enhancing overall system security.
Within the scope of NFPA 72 and cybersecurity, the team covered many of today’s pertinent topics including; applicability of the requirements, impacts on product development, the role of certification, and FM Approvals’ capabilities as an internationally recognized ISASecure® Certification Body.
