Explosion Suppression Systems

When an explosion occurs, things happen very quickly—too quickly. An end user needs to know that the explosion suppression system is prepared at all times to function as expected in a matter of milliseconds. That’s the confidence that an FM Approved explosion suppression system can bring.

An explosion suppression system consists of three basic components: the detectors, a control unit and suppressant dispersers. The explosion is sensed by fixed pressure or flame detectors. The control equipment then actuates the suppressors which rapidly disperse the suppressant to envelop and arrest the explosion before it gets out of hand. These systems are suitable for protection of confined concentrations of flammable vapors, dusts and gases.

When designing these special protection systems to provide protection for a specific occupancy, always consult the manufacturer's design and installation manual.
